Reviews Summary
Südsee-Camp Wietzendorf is a popular destination, especially for families, offering a wide range of activities from an indoor playground to an artificial lake. While many praise the facilities and fun for children, some visitors note issues with unclear extra costs for attractions and limited evening hours.
"We stayed here for a week. One thing that really stood out to us is that the staff (mostly German) don’t seem too eager to work or earn money. For example, the indoor swimming pool is closed whenever the temperature outside goes above 30°C — apparently due to the heat — so you’re forced to sit outside in the blazing sun. The climbing park is closed as well, and when we asked about horse riding, the first answer was simply “no”. Only after that did they ask whether we actually had any riding experience — which I do, since I own a horse myself. Small children with no experience are allowed to ride these horses, but an experienced adult isn’t, even though I would’ve happily paid €100 for just half an hour in the cooler hours. It really seems they’re not interested in making money or offering activities.
Another strange thing: dogs are not allowed in the water according to the rules, yet we saw dogs swimming everywhere. Meanwhile, our dog walked a few meters off-leash next to our tent and we were immediately threatened with being kicked off the campsite. It’s good that they enforce the rules, but the double standards are a bit ridiculous.
Also, don’t expect to enjoy an evening drink or meal: the bar closes at 8 PM and the restaurant told us at 8:45 PM that the kitchen was already closed for dinner. So if you’re a young adult who’d like to have a drink in the evening, forget it. I still have money left that I would’ve loved to spend here — but apparently they don’t want it."

Navigating Costs and Expectations

Additionally, evening entertainment and dining options can be limited, with the bar and restaurant kitchens closing relatively early, often around 8 PM. This means that if you're looking for a late-night drink or meal, you might need to make alternative arrangements. Being aware of these operational hours and potential closures can help you plan your day more effectively and avoid disappointment.
The Südsee-Camp Experience: Beyond the Activities
However, the experience can be influenced by the staff's approach and rule enforcement. While some reviews highlight friendly staff and a well-organized environment, others point to a perceived lack of eagerness to work or earn money, leading to unexpected facility closures or strict adherence to rules that can sometimes feel inconsistent. For instance, the double standards observed regarding dogs in the water versus on-leash rules have been noted. Despite these points, the overall sentiment from many visitors, especially families, is positive, emphasizing the camp's suitability for a memorable vacation.
