Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate the Statue of Nikos Kavadias as a beautiful tribute to a celebrated Greek poet and sailor, perfectly situated on the scenic Argostoli waterfront. It's a peaceful spot for a stroll and offers great photo opportunities, though detailed historical information at the site itself is minimal.

"He was a Greek poet, writer and a sailor by profession. He used his travels around the world, the life at sea and its adventures, as powerful metaphors for the escape of ordinary people, outside the boundaries of reality. His poems are widely regarded as belonging to symbolism, and he has been characterized by some as a poète maudit.
It was while at school that he wrote his first poems. In 1921 he began working in a shipping office and a few months later took to see on a cargo ship. For a number of years he continued working at sea, eventually returning home penniless and exhausted. He then began training to become a qualified radio operator."

"We arrived in Argostoli on a cruise ship and spent all day walking around the seaside town. Lots of places to ear and drink on and off the waterfront. At one end, a statue of Nikos Kavvadias. Not much history Ro read. Just a beautiful spot to snap some pics."

THE EXPLORER

"Viewed this statue as part of a seaside walk under the pines. A gorgeous location for this stunning statue. The statue of Nikos Kavvadias is for all fisherman and anyone who risk their lives at sea. Kavvadias was a much celebrated Greek poet."
