What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the Statue of Nikos Kavadias as a beautiful tribute to a celebrated Greek poet and sailor, perfectly situated on the scenic Argostoli waterfront. It's a peaceful spot for a stroll and offers great photo opportunities, though detailed historical information at the site itself is minimal.
"He was a Greek poet, writer and a sailor by profession. He used his travels around the world, the life at sea and its adventures, as powerful metaphors for the escape of ordinary people, outside the boundaries of reality. His poems are widely regarded as belonging to symbolism, and he has been characterized by some as a poète maudit.
It was while at school that he wrote his first poems. In 1921 he began working in a shipping office and a few months later took to see on a cargo ship. For a number of years he continued working at sea, eventually returning home penniless and exhausted. He then began training to become a qualified radio operator."
