What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Military Museum Chromonastiri for its informative exhibits, particularly the moving WWII section, and the exceptional friendliness of its staff. The historical building adds to the charm, and the low entrance fee makes it a highly recommended and worthwhile stop for understanding Crete's past.
"Visiting the Military Museum in Crete was an absolutely fantastic experience, greatly enriched by the knowledge and friendliness of the museum staff. Even though I arrived just before closing, the young man at the entrance never rushed me; on the contrary, he patiently and carefully explained the highlights of the exhibition and the fascinating history of the building itself.
Inside, I found a remarkable collection of weaponry and photographs that shed light on a lesser-known but undeniably captivating period of history. I was particularly struck by learning how the Germans brutally suppressed the local Cretan population during World War II. While I was already aware of Crete’s turbulent past with Turkey, seeing so many images and artifacts that tell the story of this era was truly eye-opening.
Thank you again to the museum staff for making the visit so memorable. Highly recommended!"

"Very nice museum. We were greeted by a friendly young man who was more than happy to tell us a little about the history of the place and how it came to be. Not a big place but worth the low price. We enjoyed it."
