What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Old Port of Fira serves as a gateway to the stunning caldera views and charming towns of Santorini. While the ascent via cable car or steps can be challenging and crowded, the breathtaking scenery and historic atmosphere of Fira and Oia make the journey worthwhile for many. Dining with a view and exploring the unique cliffside architecture are highlights.
"Loved it small areas and some nice souvenir shops before you go up to the cable car which cost 10 euro each way up and down has a 20 to 30 minute wait each way."
Joshua Rothman
"This beautiful place with old and well protracted cliffs was built around 3600BC but it was in the 12th century when it was given the name Santorini by the Venetians after a saint named Irene.
It was fortified as security boundary against pirates.
Volcanic eruptions demolished the place dispacing the population. People deserted the once alive and beautiful place built for human dwelling because of the dangers caused by the volcanoes.
However the place boasts of thousands of tourists who throng in to view this amazing ancient city. It has a wide range of wine houses and restaurants should one make it to the top.
Looking back standing at the cliff edge overlooking the ocean, one can agree that the place blooms and oozes beauty."

"As long as you get in early, the views are breathtaking. Recommend walking down the 600 or so stairs, but taking the tram up."
