What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Nea Kameni is a must-do for its unique volcanic landscape and stunning caldera views, offering a chance to walk on an active volcano. While some find the 'crater' underwhelming, the hike and panoramic vistas are widely praised. The hot springs at Palea Kameni add another dimension to the experience, though some tours can be crowded.
"We went as a part of caldera cruise and this was a wonderful stop. We paid additional fee to climb up but the views were gorgeous. It was quite a climb up but can be done unless you have mobility issues. Can get very hot so take water with you. No restrooms here. The climb down is much easier. But recommend good shoes. Our guide was very good and told us a lot about the area but there is plenty of information to read if you are an enthusiast but come here without guides."

"An activity that attracts tourists. The propaganda that says you will see a crater is absolutely false. Look at the photos here on Google before climbing and you will see that there is no crater. There is a hole. Anyone who has visited a volcano crater in the world knows what I am talking about. The propaganda here is misleading. The only thing worth climbing is for those who want to make some physical effort like me or want to see the views from the top of the hill."
Joao Belo
"Came here with a cruise ship (30-euro a ticket 09:30-18:00) and had 2 hours to kill on the volcano. Highly recommend it for hiking enthusiasts. Have good footwear with you, it is doable also with flip flops as you wore these. The ship was pretty loaded, around 100 people."
