📍Gramvousa 🇬🇷🏝️🦜🏴‍☠️ 🚢 Visitors typically reach it via boat trips from Kissamos or Chania. The boat trip often includes stops at both Gramvousa and Balos. 🏴‍☠️🏰The island offers historical exploration at the fortress and opportunities for swimming and relaxation at the beach. An old shipwreck, long deserted near the beach, has become an integral element of Gramvousa’s unique panorama. #crete #g...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Gramvousa Fortress for its breathtaking panoramic views and historical significance, deeming the challenging climb well worth the effort. While the fortress itself is impressive, the journey up the ~370 rocky stairs requires good footwear and hydration, and some find the time allocated on boat tours to be limited.

"After disembarking from the boat it’s about a 15 minute walk up ~360-370 stairs. Though hot in summer, the views over the fortress, Balos Beach, and surrounding water and mountains are spectacular and absolutely worth it!

We spent about 45-60 minutes between the walk up, wandering around these 16th century ruins, and taking loads of photos.

Suggestion: Wear good trainers/sneakers and take water. Many others wore flip flops but the steps up and around the site are rocky and uneven so support and grip are useful."

"One of the most breathtaking views from up there. Historical and beautiful. Long way which could be a little hard and long and tiring but absolutely worth it especially with a swim afterwards"
