What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Peleki Cave is highly praised by hikers for its refreshing coolness and impressive geological formations, particularly the cathedral-like spire. While the hike is moderately challenging and requires preparation with water and good lighting, the unique experience and scenic views make it a worthwhile adventure for those exploring the region. Some visitors opt to skip the deeper, smellier chambers.
"I will give 5 stars to this cave although the reason may be unusual- it save us on our hiking trip from Chochlakies - via Chochlakies gorge - to the Kato Zakros. The route is not easy and the part from the Karoumes beach to the cave is quite demanding, especially in 34 degrees π. And you know - the cave gave us shadow and 20 degrees celsius ππ
Recommend to all hikers!"
Pavol Macura
"Moderately difficult hike to the cave. The first and the last 300 meters are a bit challenging but if you just take it easy and watch your step it will fine. It can be done in open toe sandals and 1 inch nails as show by my wife π Bring lots of water and a good flashlight (Fenix E35R is perfect). We were also so we only went down to see the big chamber but apparently you can go lower. Lots of wild goats along the route. We did it from the beach and back in 3:16. Well worth the effort."

"It is 50min walk away from Kato Zakros. The path is of moderate difficulty, nothing really challanging, just watch your steps as it is uneven. Worse is the lack of shade but if you go there any other time than midday you should be fine.
There are red dots on the rocks on the way to the cave to indicate the path as it is sometimes confusing where to go (see photos). The views overseeing the see are really nice.
The cave is easy to enter, if you want to go little deeper you just need to be careful but it is no bigger problem to get to the 2nd chamber. Not sure if coming all the way down would be worth it but I think it would be doable.
Good flashlights would be nice but having two phones on us was good enough.
I really enjoyed it, definitely go there if you are around!"
