What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Marmara Beach is a scenic pebble beach with beautiful sea caves, often reached via a rewarding hike or boat trip. While praised for its natural beauty and unique cave formations, visitors frequently note that the beach can become extremely crowded, with sunbeds dominating the space, making it difficult to find room to relax.
"If you are looking for a nice remote beach this that will reward you after a nice hike this is not for you. The hike there is nice, and the cave you can snorkel to are quite nice. Besides that, it is just a crowded beach situated in a nice place.
I would give a 3 or a 4, but the sun beds are everywhere. We barely find a place to put our towels (10 minutes after the guy responsible for the sun beds put 3 sun beds 1 meter away from us… not cool."

"The beach is okay, the views are nice, how is it between mountains, but nothing fancy about it.
It is very, very crowded. It is full with sunbeds and umbrellas, even the shadow from the tress is occupied by sunbeds, you don’t really have place to put on a towel if you want.
The hike to reach it is very nice if you are passionate about that, but I don’t recommend to do it without proper hiking boots.
Also, if you are into caves, here’s a good place for you, but I recommend coming early in the morning.
I think there are better beaches to go to."

"Some tips for you... You arrive by boat (Athitis Lines) from Sfakia harbour and pay 18 euros per person from Sfakia, to Marmaras, back to Loutro and return to Sfakia. The sea is very deep, with smooth rocks and some beautiful caves. You can also get a sea taxi. There is free WiFi on the beach (!!). If you want to have lunch at the only tavern, which you should, make sure you call and book to enjoy the amazing view from the front tables. Two sunbeds and an umbrella cost 9 euros. There are opportunities for great photos and the water was crystal clear, but this is common in Crete. Whether it is worth the 3h trip from Chania I leave it up to you. I would say only if you plan to stay 2 weeks in Crete."
