Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Palaikastro Minoan Town for its impressive scale and archaeological significance, offering a glimpse into a major Minoan city. Many appreciate the scenic walk through olive groves and the proximity to the beach. However, some note that the site could be better maintained and that on-site information is limited, recommending prior research.

"Large site, no ticket box, but there is a guardian that sells tickets during opening times (from a car when we visited). There is some information on site and there is also a leaflet with information. Pity that the site is not properly tended, but there is a lot to see, and there seems to be some excavation activity also. A large part can not be visited, there is a fence."

Pieter Zwart

"We reached the center of Palekastro in about half an hour on foot. It was quite enjoyable to take a detour from the main road and walk the path among the olive trees. When the road ended, Roussolakkos appeared before us.

If you are interested in archeology, you will be surprised at its size and realize the importance of this Minoan city. Various information signs help you partially understand the structure of the city. However, it is generally insufficient. Therefore, I recommend you to visit the area by reading about it. You can find some of the artifacts excavated here, and the most important one, Palaikastro Kouros, in the Sitia Archaeological Museum in Sitia.

I should also mention that since we were walking on the path, we entered from another place, not from the main entrance, and we used the main entrance when exiting, but there was no attendant or guard in the area. We did not pay any fees. If you continue walking on the road after leaving the area, you can reach Paralia Chiona Beach in 2-3 minutes."

"The site includes the remains of a Palace and a fair sized Minoan settlement.
It is quite extensive and well worth the visit.
It's a short walk from the beach car park.
And was free to enter at any time."
