What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Habitation La Grivelière for its historical significance as the world's oldest coffee farm and its stunning panoramic views. The opportunity to learn about coffee processing and enjoy a tasting is a major draw. However, the challenging drive up and tours being primarily in French are noted drawbacks for some.
"The drive to this place is terrifying. After 3 days driving around Basse Terre, this was the worst drive we had encountered. Our small car nearly tapped out on the steep ascents. No English tour, which is fine, but not much to see or do. Coffee was just coffee. Not worth it. The views, however, are amazing!"

"Closed until "last quarter of 2020" (according to their website). Stunning location, very informative guided tour and excellent coffee. The drive up to the plantation alone makes this a worthwhile visit."

"accessible only via guided tour in French, worth visiting to learn about locally-cultivated food plants and see how coffee was processed before electricity. You can get lunch there made with garden produce, which we should have done (we took the first tour of the day and didn't expect it would last as long as it did, until 1130 or so), and every tour ends with a sample of the local brew. You can get a bag of beans in the gift shop as well as local chocolate and honey. Good bathrooms which you probably will need after that coffee. If you visit, note that the drive up is pretty hairy (our car stalled out). There are some hiking trails that start from the plantation parking lot taking you into the jungle where you can see some waterfalls, but most are pretty difficult and long (the plantation staff suggested using a mountain guide)."
