What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Hong Kong Palace Museum for its impressive architecture and the quality of its exhibitions, particularly those focusing on Chinese imperial history and art. The museum's location within the vibrant West Kowloon Cultural District is also a significant draw, allowing for a full day of cultural exploration. Some visitors note that tickets can be difficult to obtain due to high demand, and booking well in advance is essential.
"I visited on a day when a heavy rainstorm was forecast, expecting a quieter experience with fewer visitors. Instead, I was met with chaos. Despite the poor weather, the staff struggled to maintain order, resulting in a noisy environment filled with loud conversations and children running amok.
One of the most frustrating moments occurred when a group of mainland visitors blocked the aisles while taking pictures, monopolising the space in front of the exhibits for several minutes. This behaviour made it virtually impossible to appreciate the displays. The curators and organisers from Chinese museums would have handled this situation far better. Given the choice, I would much prefer to visit the Palace Museum in Beijing instead.
My experience was extremely disappointing, similar to my previous visit to the M+ Museum. I paid an extra $70 for access to the special exhibition hall, but I can confidently say that the total cost of $140 was not worth it. I have no plans to return."

"The Palace was a bit hard to find and requires a bit of planning whether you want to use the mtr or go by the bus. The exhibitions were cool and some were inclusive! Overall, nice experience."

"The Islamic carpet and Quran exhibition at the Hong Kong Palace Museum is absolutely fascinating.
It beautifully showcases the rich history and artistry of Islamic culture, featuring exquisite handwoven carpets with intricate patterns and deep symbolism, some dating back centuries. The display highlights the craftsmanship, cultural exchange, and the spiritual significance of these works.
One of the most captivating sections is the collection of historical Qurans, each with unique calligraphy styles and decorative designs, reflecting the diverse traditions of the Islamic world. The exhibition also acknowledges the important role of Qatar in supporting and sharing these cultural treasures, making it a truly global collaboration.
It’s an inspiring and educational experience that offers visitors a deeper appreciation for Islamic art and heritage — a must-see for anyone interested in history, culture, and beauty."
