A trip to Tung Chung fort and Tung Chung Battery
Stumbled up this place this morning. It’s really worth a visit. It was originally built in 1832 (on the location of the original fort 1174-1189). A primary school was built inside later - I can only imagine what fun the kids had playing around the walls and canons! There’s a…

Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Tung Chung Fort for its historical significance and peaceful atmosphere, offering a quiet escape from the city. The well-preserved walls and the adjacent battery are highlights, providing a tangible connection to Hong Kong's past. Some note that the museum is small and can be crowded with school groups.
"I loved this place because I completely stumbled across it by chance. Amazing history, and such a shame it isn’t being used more as a tourist draw. There’s a nice restaurant just outside the gate where you can stop and get some food or something to drink."
Ed Williams
"Very easy to reach by bus! 2 small rooms of pictures and antiques exhibiting the devopment of Tung Chung before and after building the airport. Abandoned but yet very interesting classrooms behind."
Stan Stan
"An important piece of history but sad to see no care taken to keep it alive and educate visitors. I was shocked to see how causally it is used by local residents I think with a basketball net and random stuff placed in the area. It’s difficult to locate as there is no clear signage to let people know where it is. I hope they can improve the preservation efforts and keep it as a place to visit if someone is in Tung Chung area."
