"Hrisey island is a beautiful wee wild adventure. We call it ptarmigan island because ptarmigan roam the village and moors depending on the time of year. The ferry to the island d only takes about 15 minutes. There is a little waiting room on the mainland with a loo if you need it. We just sat on the rocks watching the whales boats and spotting the humpbacks blow. We had cracking weather on Hrisey Island. We took our packed lunch and water and set off on the longer hike around the island. We saw so much birdlife! Snipe, godwits, kittiwakes, puffins rafting, artic alias, arctic terns, whimbrel and of course the Ptarmigan of Ptarmigan Island! You walk past the old fish drying racks, through areas of wild lupin and moorland, cliffs and a small woodland. The winds changed by the time we reentered the pretty village so we headed back to the ferry and sat in the warmth until it departed. A gorgeous wee wild adventure! When else can you see humpbacks, seals and Ptarmigan in the one day?"

"I backpacked a low power ham radio station to the island couple of years years ago, virtually no electrical interference, perfect earth / ground and a 'Marconi' antenna at ground level. 101 countries contacted during a weekend with 12volt battery, and 5 watts cw. You get great, great burgers here too!!"
