Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Goa Chitra Museum as a hidden gem for its extensive and meticulously curated collection of Goan heritage, particularly its agrarian tools and household artifacts. The knowledgeable guides and the immersive experience are frequently highlighted as major positives, offering deep insights into local culture and history. Some visitors note that certain sections could benefit from better maintenance, and the admission price might be perceived as slightly high by some, but overall, it's considered a worthwhile visit for its educational value.

"If you’re looking for the best cultural museum in Goa, Goa Chitra Museum should be the first place on your list. Trust me — this spot doesn’t just display history… it throws history at you in the coolest way possible.
The museum has three must-visit sections — Goa Chitra, Goa Chakra and Goa Kruti — and each one feels like a cultural adventure. More than 3000+ artefacts are packed inside, proving that our ancestors had more creativity than all of us combined (even without WiFi).
What makes the museum even more impressive is that it’s privately owned, built with pure passion and crazy dedication. Every item — from old tools and pottery to traditional carts and machinery — has its own story. You’ll literally walk around thinking, “Wow, humans invented this before Google existed?!”
Our guide was absolutely amazing — Polite and unbelievably knowledgeable. She made the entire experience fun, clear, and unforgettable.
The entry fee is ₹300 per person, and honestly, it’s a total paisa-vasool cultural upgrade. Plus, they offer special concessions for school trips, so kids get to learn real history instead of copying from Wikipedia.
If you love Goan culture, Indian heritage, history, craftsmanship, or just want to explore something cool in Goa, this museum is a perfect pick.
Fun, informative, and full of surprises — you’ll walk out smarter and happier.
Highly recommended — one of the coolest museums to visit in Goa!"

"There are three museums forming the Goa Chitra Museum.

The best part is every visit is accompanied by a guide who provides an informed commentary on the exhibits and is able to answer questions. In our case, Hazel was an excellent guide and greatly helped our appreciation of all three museums.

The collections in all three museums are extremely well presented and documented. Taking the best part of 35 years for the owner to bring together they tell a fascinating story of Goa and India. The focus on the wheel in one of the museums brings together the world’s largest collection wheeled carts and palanquins, all of which are beautiful, but some exquisitely so with detailed carvings and inlays.

The agricultural museum has a fine collection of agricultural implements and provides an insight into the lives, culinary and agricultural practices of Goa.

Finally, the colonial Goa section houses artefacts from the Portuguese era showing the introduction of modern technology and the lives and lifestyles of the Indo-Portuguese.

Absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Goa Chitra Museum as a great way to spend an hour or two learning more about Goa and India."

"Visited the Chitra Museum yesterday and it was such a lovely experience. I went about an hour before closing around sunset and the place looked absolutely magical in that golden light. Our guide Hazel was amazing she explained everything so well from old agricultural tools and techniques to Portuguese paintings furniture and the many beautiful carts on display.

Time just flew by and before I knew it the tour had ended. Hazel shared so many fun stories and patiently answered every single question I had. I really appreciated how passionate she was about everything she showed us.

A big appreciation to the curator too for creating such a wonderful space and for all the beautiful murals he has painted. The collection he’s put together is truly incredible and full of Goan history and charm.

If you’re planning to visit I’d suggest going a little early so you can take it all in properly. This place is an absolute must visit!"
