What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Vishnupad Temple is a deeply sacred site for Hindus, particularly for performing Pind Daan rituals. Visitors praise its spiritual aura, intricate architecture, and the divine footprint of Lord Vishnu. However, some reviews mention concerns about commercialization and persistent touts, suggesting a need for vigilance.
"This was the lowest point I felt born a Hindu.
No spiritual feeling, no religious atmosphere, nothing here made me feel proud or even good about being born a Hindu.
Everything here is based on money and begging and the pandits are the biggest culprit. Everything here feels like just another thing to tick off on your list, maybe grab a few selfies to prove to others that you have been to this place.
You can't put your guard down just because it's a temple. You are constantly on the watch of someone trying to steal stuff, trying to scam you, or trying to sell you something or begging.
Everything felt so mechanical with no feeling of worship anywhere.
For reference, I used to visit Sangam daily while I was in Allahabad and the atmosphere there was so much better, it felt sacred. I felt proud to be a Hindu there. Here, I just feel ashamed."

"Vishnupad Mandir in Gaya is one of the most sacred and ancient temples in India, built at the spot believed to bear Lord Vishnu’s footprint on a rock. The temple is especially significant for performing Pind Daan rituals for ancestors, which attracts devotees from across the country. The architecture is beautiful, with detailed carvings and a serene spiritual aura.
We visited during the Pind Daan period(Paksha Masa before Navratri) and though the temple was very crowded, the queue system, facilities and overall management by the Bihar government were very well, making the darshan smooth and orderly. Mobiles and electronic gadgets are not allowed inside and footwear has to be left outside. Priests are available to guide with rituals, but it’s better to fix everything in advance for clarity. Shops and small eateries are available around the temple for convenience.
A must-visit for devotees coming to Gaya Ji."
