What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Amber Fort is a grand historical site with impressive architecture and rich history, drawing many tourists. While the fort itself is widely praised, the evening Sound and Light Show receives mixed reviews, with some finding its production outdated despite its historical narrative. Visitors recommend comfortable shoes and carrying water due to the fort's size and potential heat.
"Amer Fort, Jaipur is a must-visit historical fort and a top tourist destination for families, groups, and couples. The fort is grand and beautifully built with amazing architecture, scenic views, and rich history. It attracts both Indian and foreign tourists in large numbers. The area is quite large, so wear comfortable shoes and carry water or snacks—especially if you're visiting in summer. A visit to Jaipur is incomplete without exploring Amer Fort. One of the best places to experience Rajasthani culture and royalty."
Alert Time
"A normal one, basically focussed on the history of Amer Fort and Kings who ruled Amer and Jaipur. But (personal view) the light and sound show needs upgradation. The show was not as expected. It's very very basic. The coloured lighting is normal and the show is just like switching on and off lights and some shades of different lights with sound effects narrating a story. They can switch to laser based lights with effects to give a real feel to the audience. The ticket costs Rs 250 per head, can be booked through bookmyshow. The timing is 7-8 PM in English and 8-9 PM in Hindi. My overall experience is Rs 250 is not worth the show they present."
Soumit Roy
"The sound effect is nice, but the lighting part of the show is a bit outdated and out of sync. The story itself is also below par. It has no fluency and goes off in different trajectories. It’s an okay story for people completely unfamiliar with Indian history, but that’s about it.
The walk from parking to the light and sound show is pleasant. The open-air atmosphere is pleasant and can be a nice experience overall. But I wouldn’t recommend expecting much from the show itself."

Understanding the Sound and Light Show
While the concept is engaging, visitor feedback suggests that the show's production, particularly the lighting and visual effects, could benefit from an upgrade. Some reviewers describe it as basic, with lighting that feels outdated and sometimes out of sync with the narration. The story itself, while informative for those unfamiliar with Indian history, can feel disjointed or too long for some.
Despite these criticisms, the show offers a pleasant open-air experience in the fort's courtyard. It's a way to see Amber Fort in a different light after sunset and gain some historical context. For those who manage their expectations and view it as a supplementary historical narrative rather than a high-tech performance, it can still be an enjoyable part of a Jaipur visit.
