Reviews Summary

Mahila Bagh Ka Jhalra is a historically significant stepwell in Jodhpur, appreciated for its unique architecture and as a less crowded alternative to more famous sites. However, visitors note its neglected condition and the presence of locals trying to sell goods, which can detract from the experience. It's best visited for its historical context and photographic potential rather than pristine upkeep.

"Not so far from Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower), I paused to explore an age-old spiritual site — Sri Lal Baba Ji ka Mandir, located just near Gulab Sagar.
Despite its heritage presence, I found very little about it online — just a few scattered mentions. The temple is dedicated to a local saint, revered among the city’s older generations, though its origins remain obscure. A quiet spot echoing devotion in the heart of old Jodhpur.

From there, I walked to Gulab Sagar Talab, a historic water reservoir built in the 18th century by Gulab Rai, the queen of Maharaja Vijay Singh. Once an important water source for the city, today it still holds charm with the backdrop of Mehrangarh Fort reflecting on its waters.

Next came Mahila Bagh ka Jhalra, a lesser-known stepwell tucked inside the city. Unlike the more popular Toorji Ka Jhalra, this one is relatively hidden, covered with barricades and sadly not well-maintained. Yet, it has its own story — built for the royal women of Jodhpur as a private water source and a cool retreat during the scorching summer months.

🔹 A walk through these places felt like unwrapping forgotten pages of Jodhpur's urban history — quiet, sacred, and often overlooked."

"Honestly nothing amazing, tourist trap, u came for the pictures an that’s all, it’s no that amazing, full os local triying to sell you or charge you for a picture,"

"Sort of neglected step well in Jodhpur. It could be cleaned and would serve dual purpose of storage of real clean water and a tourist attraction as well. It can be accessed/ explored by foot or by a bike, bringing car will be tough and to park as well. No parking or other public facilities around.
All around this place there are many tourist oriented eateries and cheap accommodation.
You may find restaurants and hotels with boards in Russian, Chinese and other foreign languages.
Rajasthan was among the first in the world to know and develop stepwells to store water which helped in summer and help maintain good water level and keep surroundings cool. Apathy towards our old knowledge makes us ignore it."
