What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are often awestruck by Subhas Sarovar's natural beauty, praising its lush greenery, scenic lake, and peaceful atmosphere as a perfect antidote to city life. While some note areas could be better maintained, the overall sentiment highlights its tranquility and the joy it brings to families, couples, and solo visitors alike.
"It was my first time visiting this place.
What can I say ... I'm just awestruck by the sheer beauty of nature! 🤍
The place spans over a vast area — filled with lush greenery all around, a scenic Lake in the middle and a peaceful atmosphere — a perfect antidote for today's fast paced world.
The cool breeze, the scenery in front, the chirping of birds and squirrels playing around — all just made me forget whatever was going on in my mind and brought me to enjoy the present.
I visited on a day when a heavy downpour hit, so I only managed to cover half of the area. But still that was more than enough to take back with me.
I've read people say that the place has lost its charm but — as a first-time visitor, this place truly amazed me.
Workers are always busy keeping the area clean. The children's park, walk ways, and surrounding areas are well maintained — although the lake edges are covered with mosses underneath, and some people do use the water for personal cleaning.
The benches or resting stations are however not up to the mark. Most of the wooden benches are broken, while some resting areas are not properly maintained.
But, as no place is without its flaws, I think we should not let that stop us from seeing the brighter side. And this Lake has far more beauty to offer than anything else.
You may find couples hanging out, or many people with their fishing rod standing beside the lake. You may even find many groups laughing and giggling together or a few solo travellers lost in the serenity of nature. But what remains common is that everyone is happy and fully immersed in the moment.
The beauty of the place lies not just in its surroundings, but in the way it brings tranquility to all who visit.💙"

"📍 My First Visit to Subhash Sarobar – A Mixed Experience
Yesterday evening, for the first time in my life, I visited Subhash Sarobar. My mother had told me about this place before. I imagined a scenic beauty filled with nature at its best—cool breeze, migratory birds, and a peaceful escape.
As a South Kolkata boy, I always believed that Rabindra Sarobar was the only nature getaway in the city. But I was wrong! However, I was also wrong in another way—when I reached Subhash Sarobar, I realized it had lost its old glory.
As a traveler and nature enthusiast, I was terribly disappointed. The place now looks more like what we call in Bengali a "pana pukur" (a pond covered with water hyacinths). Local people use it for bathing, washing clothes, and even cleaning animals. I’m not sure whether vehicle parking is officially allowed or not, but I saw autos and other vehicles parked inside.
However, there are some good aspects too—the children’s park is well-maintained and clean, and there are free open-air gyms. But the majority of the area is overgrown with wild bushes, broken pathways, and unwanted water hyacinths covering the water.
As a traveler, I felt truly sad. Our government has always done commendable work in keeping our city clean. I sincerely urge the higher authorities to take the necessary steps to restore Subhash Sarobar to its former glory.
If my words hurt anyone, I apologize, but please bring back the lost beauty of this place. 🙏🍃💚"
