What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mahasu Peak offers breathtaking Himalayan vistas and a unique horseback ride experience to its summit, complete with a local temple. While many enjoy the scenic beauty and winter snow activities, some visitors feel it can be an overpriced tourist trap with poor crowd management and inflated prices for rides.
"Mahasu Peak is the highest point in Kufri, located about 13 km from Shimla. It offers stunning views of the Badrinath and Kedarnath ranges. The peak is accessible via a 2 km trek through dense cedar forests or by horseback, which is a popular option for visitors. At the summit, there's a small temple dedicated to the local deity, and during winter, the area becomes a hub for snow activities like skiing and tobogganing. The Mahasu Ridge near the peak is ideal for beginners to practice skiing. The best time to visit is during the winter months when the snow-covered landscape adds to the charm. To reach Mahasu Peak, you can hire a taxi from Shimla to Kufri and then proceed to the base point, from where you can either trek or take a horse ride to the top. It's advisable to wear warm clothing and comfortable shoes, especially if you plan to trek. The serene environment and panoramic views make Mahasu Peak a must-visit destination in Kufri."

"There are many shops and street food restaurants in this charming neighborhood. This peak, which is only reachable by mules or horses due to the muddy path, offers views of the mountains and Kufri's natural wonders. It is a little cold outside. Dress warmly and pack some water. Unfortunately, during my May visit, I did not see any snow."

"Shimla was nice, with pleasant walks on Mall Road and good views. But our experience in Kufri was disappointing. Kufri is popular for adventure activities like zip lining, rope climbing etc. I noticed it’s not just an activity hub — it’s also a hotspot for cheating tourists.
We bought a package for 3 activities at ₹1500 per person (we were 6 people), but due to extremely long lines, we could only manage 2 activities in nearly 4 hours. The organizers seemed least bothered once you paid, and the crowd management was poor. Honestly, it felt like a tourist trap. I’d say they were outright cheaters — overselling packages they couldn’t deliver."
