Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Salaulim Dam and Garden for its refreshing natural beauty, well-maintained botanical gardens, and the unique 'duckbill' spillway, especially during monsoon. It's considered a peaceful escape and a great spot for photography and family picnics, though parking can be limited and food options are basic.

"Visited Salaulim Dam and it was a refreshing experience overall. The place is surrounded by greenery, flowers, and calmness — perfect for anyone looking to spend some peaceful time in nature. The garden area is well maintained, full of colorful plants and butterflies flying around, with birds chirping everywhere, giving the whole area a soothing vibe. You can easily spend an hour or two just walking around or sitting quietly enjoying the scenery.

The dam view itself is quite unique — the spillway design is circular, and when the water flows through it, you can even see a faint rainbow at times, which looks beautiful. It’s a nice spot for photography and short nature walks.

Parking space is limited, so it might get tight if you visit during weekends or holidays. The place opens around 9 AM, so plan your visit accordingly. There’s also a small medicinal garden nearby that’s worth checking out.

Overall, a calm and peaceful place to visit once in South Goa — especially if you enjoy nature, fresh air, and a break from city noise."

"Salaulim Dam is one of those places that surprises you with its calm beauty and incredible engineering. The panoramic view of the reservoir surrounded by lush green hills feels like something straight out of a postcard. The highlight, of course, is the unique spillway design — when water overflows, it forms a mesmerizing circular waterfall that’s simply breathtaking to watch.
✨ Travel Tip: Visit early morning or around monsoon season when the spillway is active — the view is magical! The place is peaceful, clean, and perfect for a relaxing day away from the crowd. Pack some snacks, a camera, and enjoy nature at its best."

"The dam is one big place to visit and more enthralling is the very well maintained lush green botanical garden with well shaped hedges. And excellent place for families with kids to enjoy a picnic here. Theres a small snack shop with very limited packaged snacks and drinks. Suggest they also keep some refundable fee to prohibit plastic disposal by tourists to maintain it. Lovely place . Dam is simply magnificent with great photo ops. Theres a 60 rs fee for entry which is justified as the place is well kept. And keeping mind its a dam , security will restrict photos at certain locations. Entrance to the steps leading to dam steps is a quite a bit of walk. So be prepared in hot weather with caps and walking shoes . Enjoyable if you are an outdoor person."

The Engineering Marvel: Salaulim Dam

The Salaulim Dam is a significant piece of engineering, constructed across the Salaulim River, a tributary of the Zuari River. Its primary purpose is to provide irrigation and drinking water supply to the surrounding regions of Goa. The dam's most distinctive feature is its unique 'duckbill' spillway, a semi-circular structure that creates a spectacular, misty cascade when water overflows. This design is particularly mesmerizing during the monsoon season, drawing visitors for its visual appeal and the sheer power of the water. InstagramReddit

Beyond its functional role, the dam has become a popular tourist destination, offering a serene escape from the usual beach crowds. The surrounding landscape, with lush green hills meeting the vast reservoir, provides a picturesque backdrop. Visitors often remark on the peaceful atmosphere and the impressive scale of the structure. InstagramReddit

While the dam itself is a marvel, its integration with the botanical garden enhances the visitor experience. This garden, inspired by the famous Brindavan Gardens in Mysore, adds a layer of natural beauty and tranquility, making it a well-rounded destination for nature lovers and sightseers alike. Exploring the Botanical Garden

Adjacent to the dam, the Salaulim Botanical Garden offers a delightful contrast to the dam's engineering might. This meticulously maintained garden is a haven of greenery, featuring a diverse collection of plants, trees, and well-sculpted hedges. The garden's layout is inspired by the renowned Brindavan Gardens, suggesting a focus on aesthetic appeal and visitor comfort. You'll find ample benches scattered throughout, inviting you to sit and soak in the serene ambiance. The presence of various plant species and the general upkeep make it a pleasant spot for a leisurely walk or a family picnic. InstagramReddit
