The monastery was founded by Gyalstey Rigzin Champo the son of King Tsurphud Namgyal and was completed in 1843AD with construction started in 1826AD. This was after the capital of the Namgyal Dynasty run Sikkim was shifted from Rabdanste, the second capital to Tumlong. It houses a Sakyamuni Buddha statue, a Mahakala statue and a Maha Guru statue."
