Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Malampuzha Yakshi statue as an artistic marvel and the gardens as a beautiful, serene escape. The ropeway and dam views are also highlights, offering a pleasant experience for families and couples. However, some reviews mention poor infrastructure and cleanliness issues, suggesting room for improvement in maintenance.

"One of the most famous in Kerala, the Yakshi by Kanhai Kunjiraman stands, or rather, sits in Malampuzha garden below the Malampuzha dam. Once upon a tine it was the star attraction of the garden and almost all the visitors did come to see it as well. But now the nude Yakshi does not have many viewers. We can see it well from the Rope Way. So most people do not walk all the way to the end of the garden to see her. Whatever it is, Yakshi is beautiful, a fine example of Kunjiraman's exceptional talent."

"Nice place to visit with family and couples. There are rope car available for that they are charging 71 rupees for head. There is boating also available to enjoy. They are charging 450 rupees for 6 members in the boating and also hanging bridge also available to walk. Inside park there are yakshi statue and few coffee shops also available."

"Infrastructure is very poor. Bathroom facilities should be better. Authorities should take visitors seriously. Plastic wastes are thrown everywhere by the civilians. Place have a vibe, especially family and kids will love the place."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Artistry of the Yakshi Statue

The Malampuzha Yakshi Statue is more than just a tourist attraction; it's a significant piece of modern Indian sculpture. Carved from a single block of granite in 1969 by the celebrated artist Kanayi Kunhiraman, the statue stands at an impressive 30 feet. Kunhiraman's inspiration reportedly came from observing the shape of a nearby hill that resembled a reclining woman with flowing hair. The statue's bold depiction of sensuality, a departure from traditional temple sculptures, initially sparked controversy but has since become an iconic symbol of Malampuzha. InstagramReddit

Kunhiraman, who was in his early thirties when he created the Yakshi, later revisited the statue in his eighties to propose a bronze plating for its preservation. This dedication highlights the deep personal connection the artist has with his creation. The statue's artistic merit lies in its fluid lines and evocative posture, making it a captivating subject for art lovers and visitors alike. Reddit

Despite initial protests, the Yakshi statue has cemented its place as a must-see attraction, drawing millions of visitors annually. Its unique artistic expression and historical context make it a focal point of the Malampuzha Gardens, offering a blend of mythology, art, and natural beauty. InstagramReddit
