"Such a lovely and spiritual place to be. They have renovated the whole place and now it's much more big and beautiful. The prayer place is on 1st floor where you can wash your hands and feet before entering the hall. Quite a big place to sit down and do meditation also

They server langar i.e. free food for everyone. You need to collect the plate and spoon while entering and sit down on the mat inside. We had roti, rice and dal and it was really very delicious. After that you need to wash your plates , spoon and glass and keep it to dry for others to use"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Understanding Sikhism and Gurudwara Etiquette

Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara Ulsoor is a significant place of worship for Sikhs in Bangalore, embodying the core principles of Sikhism: equality, selfless service (seva), and devotion. The term 'Gurudwara' itself means 'doorway to the Guru,' signifying a place of learning and spiritual guidance. Visitors are encouraged to embrace the spirit of humility and respect that permeates the premises. This includes observing the strict dress code – covering your head and ensuring your body is modestly covered from shoulders to knees – and removing your shoes before entering. The act of washing hands and feet before stepping into the prayer hall is a symbolic gesture of purification. Reddit

Central to the Gurudwara experience is the Langar, the community kitchen. Here, volunteers prepare and serve simple, nutritious vegetarian meals to everyone, irrespective of their caste, creed, or social standing. This practice powerfully demonstrates the Sikh value of equality and the importance of selfless service. When participating in Langar, remember to collect your own plate, bowl, and spoon, sit on the floor with others, and after finishing your meal, wash your own utensils and place them for drying. This communal effort highlights the shared responsibility and respect within the community. Reddit

While the Gurudwara is a place of worship, it is also a vibrant community center. You might witness Kirtan (devotional singing) and Paath (recitation of scriptures) which create a deeply spiritual and calming atmosphere. The recent renovations have enhanced the beauty and functionality of the Gurudwara, making it an even more welcoming space for reflection and spiritual connection. Reddit

Many describe it as a place where the 'busy noise of the city disappears,' allowing for a deeper connection with oneself and the divine. The well-maintained premises, including recent renovations, contribute to this tranquil experience, making it a welcoming sanctuary for all. Reddit

Beyond the main prayer hall, the Gurudwara offers spaces for quiet contemplation and meditation.
