The historical significance as an ancient Shiv Nagari and the remnants of Rusirani Palace add to its appeal. Some visitors note that many surrounding temples are in ruins, but this doesn't detract from the overall experience of its historical grandeur and scenic charm.
"Ancient shiv nagari made by Raja Someshwar Chauhan who was belong to Chahaman dynasty known as Shakambhari chauhan vansh .... It is known as Mahanaaleshwar temple at 10 th century later on Rajasthan Prathvi raj chauhan also stayed in natural place ..... There is only remains of other surroundings temples but Mahadev temple as it is ...... So it is big shiv nagari in approach bundi , kota , chittorgarh and bhilwara ."

"The temple of Siva as Mahanal, was a great centre of Saivism under the rule of the Chahamanas. It is mentioned as a place of pilgrimage. A temple of the eleventh century A.D. is built in the Bhumija style of architecture with stellate pancharatha ground plan and corresponding superstructure carrying strings of angasikharas, surmounted by a double amalaka. The layout has an antarala in front, a sukanasa above and a rangamandapa beyond with samvarana roof. A separate nandi-mandapa exists. There is no jagati terrace and the pitha is surmounted by gajapitha and narapitha."
