What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Gurney House for its historical significance and the personal touch of the owners and caretakers. The well-preserved colonial charm and the collection of Jim Corbett's artifacts are major highlights. While the steep access can be a challenge, the enriching experience and warm hospitality make it a worthwhile visit for history enthusiasts and those seeking a unique Nainital experience.
"We had a beautiful stay at Hushstay x Gurney House. Mrs. Dalmia, the owner, was charming to chat to, as she took us on a historical walk-through Gurney House and her family’s association with it.
Ganesh bhaiya, the caretaker, was extremely helpful when we called him almost a dozen times to get the directions right. Once there, he & Bhagwati didi made us feel comfortable and at home.
Ganesh bhaiya regaled us with stories about Nainital while Bhagwati didi was always there, with a smile, to serve us whatever we wanted.
Calling the hospitality ‘inviting’ is an understatement. Speaking about food, simple, home-cooked meals tasted wonderful and were made with love.
If you do not want to step out, you can order food in too. Zomato is available; Ganesh bhaiya can provide a few restaurant numbers too.
Coming to the house itself, it is a cottage from the British era. It has been painstakingly maintained. The artifacts, from Corbett’s lives, are an absolute delight.
We had a happy time walking around the house, seeing & appreciating each of the artifacts. Hushstay x Gurney House has a small garden where our dog loved to play.
The surrounding trees are teeming with birds. The location is winning too. In spite of being in the heart of Nainital, it felt exclusive & secluded."
Let's Go Sightseeing
"Gurney House was corbett family's summer stay. At present it is not their property and it is owned by Dalmia family who are used it as homestay.
The bunglow is really nice with it's forest environment.
All furnitures, trophies are kept in well manner where you can feel the touch of Jim Corbett."

"Very little known about Jim Corbett's house. It is now owned by Dalmia's. The house still hosts the things used by Jim corbett and his writings. Although it is a little difficult to visit this place as it is around 1km from main road and a very steep rise to the house but one will feel enchanted after a visit to the famous hunter's home. We visited while there was renovations going on. Below are the pics of the things used by him. There is no entry fee as very few people knows about this house and very few visits here."
