"Situated 25 Kms. from Imphal beside the Tiddim Road (NH150) is a picturesque site famous for its perennial Water Fall in a scenic foot hill. There are three waterfall spots. This is a very popular day-visit place for the locals. We reached the site with our hired vehicle and took hardly half an hour to reach the parking place from the Imphal city. Large free parking ground was already almost full and somehow we managed to park our car in a corner. From parking place to the water fall site is around half a kilometre uphill trek through dense Himalayan vegetation. Moist trail is very enjoyable to trek for any nature lover. Sadu Chiru Water Falls are really spectacular sight. Huge mass of water is dancing down nearly 300 meters on to the wall of the steep hill. The mist is making the air heavy and translucent from time to time. Locals are enjoying the bath in mid-day in the pool below. The whole place had an ambience of a village fair. Interestingly, large number of Manipuri tribal women were selling green vegetables, dry fish and other eatables on either side of the trail at the beginning. Small tea shops were preparing Pakorha out of onion sprouts which were selling like hot cake. Thereby, we had an opportunity to tase the pakorha and tea and bought some red hot Manipuri chilli on our way back to the parking site. When you are at Imphal never forget to visit Sadu Chiru."

"An excellent spot to visit around Imphal. You will need to drive to the base of the spot which is about 45 mins to an hour from the main Imphal city. There's a 20-min hike from the base which is slightly dangerous due to the wilderness and untamed route, but worth it for the destination."

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Encourage your kids to try the local snacks like pakoras and tea from the stalls along the trail – it's a fun cultural experience. While the main waterfall is safe for viewing, always supervise children closely, especially near water. The upper trails are not recommended for families with young children due to their rugged and potentially dangerous nature.

The Three Tiers of Sadu Chiru
The upper two tiers are located deeper within the forest and are significantly less accessible. The paths leading to them are described as untamed and potentially dangerous, deterring most visitors. This means that while the potential for exploration exists, the practical experience for the average tourist is centered around the first, most impressive cascade.
Despite the limited accessibility to the upper falls, the beauty of the primary cascade, combined with the surrounding lush green valley and the unique local market experience, makes Sadu Chiru a compelling destination for a day trip from Imphal. The journey itself, through dense vegetation, adds to the overall natural charm of the place.
A Taste of Local Life
Adding to the sensory experience are the small tea shops that dot the path. Here, you can savor authentic local snacks, with pakoras (especially those made from onion sprouts) being a particular highlight. Paired with a cup of tea, these hot snacks are a delightful treat, especially after the uphill trek. Many visitors find these culinary experiences to be an integral and enjoyable part of their visit, offering a chance to taste authentic Manipuri flavors at very affordable prices.
This blend of natural beauty and local commerce creates a vibrant atmosphere, often described as akin to a village fair. It's an opportunity to interact with locals, support small businesses, and truly experience the essence of the region beyond just the waterfall itself.
The Trek and Its Rewards
While the main waterfall is the primary draw, the trek itself is part of the experience. The path is lined with natural beauty, and the anticipation builds as you ascend. The effort is considered well worth it by visitors, who are consistently mesmerized by the waterfall's beauty and the cool, invigorating environment it creates.
For those seeking a more adventurous experience, the less-trodden paths to the upper waterfalls offer a more challenging trek. However, these routes are less maintained and can be dangerous, so they are best suited for experienced hikers. The primary trek to the main cascade, however, is accessible and enjoyable for most visitors.
