"It's a beautiful old palace constructed mostly with wood. Along with palace, government also maintaining museum here.

As per Wikipedia, even though the palace is named after shivappa nayak, it was actually built by hyder Ali. I also agree with this view because the tipu's palace is Bangalore also has similar style and architecture.

Numerous antiquities collected from near by temples and archeological sites, such as sculptures, inscriptions and hero stones from the hoyasala era and later periods are on display at the palace grounds.

It's a must visit for every one to understand our ancient history especially for kids. You can also see here ancient pottery and seals from Harappan and mohenjodaro periods. Old manuscripts written in palm leaves can be seen here. Many wooden boxes l, decorative pieces carved in Sandal wood also displayed here.
