What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Junglighat Sunday Market for its abundance of fresh, organic produce directly from local farmers, offering a genuine glimpse into community life. While not a food tasting destination, its vibrant atmosphere and quality goods make it a worthwhile Sunday morning experience. Some note the lack of bargaining and limited ready-to-eat options.
""I recently visited the Sunday Market at Junglighat in Port Blair and had a fantastic shopping experience. I was looking for some fresh vegetables and groceries, and this market exceeded my expectations. The vendors offered a wide range of fresh produce, including organic options, at very reasonable prices.
I picked up some delicious-looking vegetables, fruits, and spices, as well as some kitchen essentials like cooking oil and pulses. The quality of the products was top-notch, and I was impressed by the cleanliness and organization of the market.
What I loved most about this market was the friendly and helpful vendors. They were more than happy to guide me through the various options and even offered some valuable cooking tips!
Overall, I highly recommend the Sunday Market at Junglighat for all your grocery and kitchen needs. It's a great place to shop, and I'll definitely be back!""

"Starts early morning by 6 am, the time by which all vendors have set their agri produce. Vegetable vendors and farmers both have their stalls. Locating farmers directly selling their farm produce will help to get vegetables plucked one day before, really proving farm fresh "farm to fork".
There is no bargaining. Normally customers don't even ask price.
Few vendors selling poultry (birds - chicken, fowl, duck). The regular fish market is also bustling with variety of fish and customers. Couple of vendors will be there selling groceries, kitchen essentials and clothes.
Since agri produce is sold by vendors on road side, vehicular traffic is not allowed where market takes place. So parking needs to be done on main roads or by lanes away from market area
Many vendors are having QR code option for making digital payment.
Plus point is that hardly any agri produce is left wasted on roads. Overall clean and spacious market.
Earlier you visit the market, more fresh produce will be available for selection.
One can sip fresh DAB (nariyal Pani, coconut) or tea (lal chai) at one of the joints at cross road inside the market. Breakfast is available at that joint."

"Worth visiting to feel the local ambience. 100% oriented to the local community, people do their weekly food shopping here. For tourists not much to taste. Thereโs no ready made food stalls or possibility to taste seasonal fruit, unless you buy and take somewhere. For us staying at hotel that was not an option."
