"The siege lasted several weeks. On May 4, 1799, the British launched a full-scale assault on the city. Tipu Sultan fought bravely to defend his kingdom but was eventually overwhelmed. He was found dead near the Water Gate of the fort, reportedly betrayed by some of his own men. He died sword in hand, refusing to flee or surrender, earning respect even from his enemies.

"One of the secret paths to the Mysore Palace was hidden beneath the Kaveri River and was filled with deadly crocodiles, making it nearly impossible for enemies to enter the fort. However, the British managed to gain access by turning a well-known and trusted person against Tipu Sultan, who revealed the entry route. Tipu Sultan fought his final battle bravely—he neither surrendered nor fled, choosing instead to fight till his last breath."
