What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Batur Hot Springs Toya Devasya offers a unique natural hot spring experience with stunning views of Lake Batur and Mount Batur. While the warm waters and scenic location are praised, many visitors note that the facilities are dated and hygiene, particularly concerning flies, is a significant issue. Concerns about animal welfare have also been raised.
"Went to use the hot springs. Very expensive for what it is. Needs a complete revamp as dated, with paint peeling off, rust and missing tiles.
As you enter there are hens kept in small cages, cruel and unpleasant conditions.
There were no female lockers left to use despite arriving at 12 noon. Not exactly peak time.
Whilst the pools were warm, there were flies everywhere including in the pool. No one appeared to try and keep the pools clean.
The kids slides were good but again run down.
We wouldn't consider eating there as the kitchen area was full of flies and people who were eating were swatting flies as they ate.
Would definitely not recommend anyone to go, here it needs a complete refurbishment. It needs an indoor area to eat in.
Charging what they do for this place is out of order."

"The location is good as it looks over the mountain, morning view was spectacular as we enjoyed breakfast after the jeep tour on mount Batur. The breakfast is just so so but the whole area was packed with flies. They made us wait for quite a long time in the morning."

"Amazing lake views and hot springs... Never thought I'd be reviewing something like this a 1 star. But I can't get past the animal cruelty of their 'decoration' - roosters in small cages in the hot sun all day. Big issues with flies too."

The Hot Springs Experience: What to Expect
However, it's crucial to manage expectations regarding the facilities. Several reviews point out that the infrastructure appears dated, with issues like peeling paint, rust, and a general lack of modern upkeep. While the warm water is a draw, the overall ambiance might not meet the standards of a luxury spa.
Hygiene is a recurring concern raised by visitors. Reports of flies in the pools and dining areas, as well as cleanliness issues in changing rooms and toilets, are common. If you are particularly sensitive to these aspects, it's worth considering this feedback before your visit.
Beyond the Pools: Activities and Views
The scenic views are a significant highlight. The location in Kintamani offers unparalleled vistas of Lake Batur, a large volcanic lake, and the imposing Mount Batur. Morning views, especially after a sunrise trek, are frequently described as spectacular and a major reason people visit the area.
For those who have just completed the popular Mount Batur sunrise trek, a dip in the hot springs is a highly recommended way to soothe tired muscles and relax. Many trekking tours include a stop at the hot springs as part of the package, making it a convenient addition to the adventure.
Addressing Visitor Concerns: Flies and Animal Welfare
Another significant concern raised by multiple guests is the animal welfare aspect, specifically the keeping of roosters and hens in small cages under the sun. This practice has been described as cruel and unpleasant, detracting from the overall experience for some visitors. If animal welfare is a priority for you, this is an important point to consider.
Given these recurring issues, it's advisable for potential visitors to weigh the natural beauty and relaxing hot springs against the reported drawbacks concerning facility maintenance, hygiene, and animal welfare.
