What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors acknowledge the historical significance of the Lengkong Monument, particularly its connection to Daan Mogot and the independence era. While the monument and garden are generally well-kept, some reviewers note that the adjacent historical buildings could benefit from better maintenance and consistent accessibility.
"The (1) PETA museum in Bogor, west Jawa, (2) a road that connects with Kyai Tapa road in West Jakarta and (3) this location have one thing in common: Daan Mogot. He was a military officer of PETA, an important feature in Indonesia's history. Exhibits on him can be seen in the museum in Bogor. That road in West Jakarta is named after him. This location is where he died during an gunfight with Japanese forces. The monument inscribes the names of soldiers who perished. Typical of many other Indonesian historical sites, design and maintenance is never a strong point. Although the main lawn and plane area is reasonably well kept, not so much of the adjacent buildings, which are probably what the Japanese armory used to be and can/should be better used as a mini museum. Despite the nation's doctrine to honour their heroes, the flag raised above the monument is faded, tattered and torn, suggesting years of neglect."
