Mount Bromo tours are consistently praised for their breathtaking scenery, particularly the sunrise. "Today I had an incredible experience with my friend, guided by Mr. Abbas. Right from the beginning, he coordinated everything so well and made sure we were comfortable throughout the trip. We had two drivers – one from Surabaya Indonesia to the village and another from Roma Village to the mountain – and both drove really well and safely.
What stood out the most was our tour guide, Mr. Abbas. He was simply amazing – very helpful, energetic, and knowledgeable. He took us to every spot, explained everything clearly, and still patiently waited for us at every step. His energy and dedication truly made the trip memorable.
We had such a great time, and I’m so glad we booked this through the Klook app. It was an absolutely smooth and unforgettable experience!"

"Mount Bromo and Madakaripura waterfall
We did the Mount Bromo trip to watch the sunrise from King Kong Hill. We had a hot coffee and some fried banana while waiting, and even got to see the stars before dawn. The sunrise with those views was just stunning!
Then we drove down with the Jeep to the Sea of Sand, crossed it, and hiked up Mount Bromo to look into the crater — such an amazing experience for the eyes, ears, and even the nose.
After that, we had breakfast at a nice restaurant with great views.
To finish the trip, we went to the Madakaripura waterfall, where we took a dip in an absolutely incredible setting.
Our guide, Rico, was awesome — always looking after us, giving us space when we needed it, but also sharing lots of interesting info about the tour and the places we visited.
We really recommend Rico for this tour!!"

"I joined a tour to Mount Bromo with this agency Cheap Bromo in Surabaya and it was honestly one of the highlights of my trip. From the very first moment, everything was well organized and stress-free. The itinerary included amazing spots like the viewpoint for the sunrise, the Mount Bromo crater and also the spot for coffee break and breakfast. Every stop felt carefully chosen to give us the best experience.
Our guide, Rizky, was fantastic — super friendly, full of interesting stories, and always ready to help with anything we needed. He made the whole trip feel really authentic and special.
The transport was comfortable, schedules were on time, and the team made sure we felt safe and taken care of at all times. Most importantly, they made us feel welcome, almost like traveling with friends.
I couldn’t recommend them enough to anyone visiting Surabaya. If you want a smooth, enjoyable, and truly memorable experience, this is the agency and the guide - RIZKY - to go with! 🌟"

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Be prepared for the cold morning temperatures by dressing children in warm layers. The hike to the crater rim involves stairs, so assess your child's stamina. For younger children, the horse ride option in the Sea of Sand might be more suitable than the full hike. Ensure you pack plenty of snacks and water, and consider tours that include stops for breaks and meals.
💰 Budget Travelers
For the most economical option, consider taking the Damri bus from Surabaya to Cemoro Lawang. From there, you can arrange for a shared jeep or negotiate a price for a private jeep. While this requires more independent planning, it significantly cuts down on costs. Pack your own snacks and water to save on expenses at tourist spots.
📸 Photography Enthusiasts
Consider booking a tour that includes documentation services if you want professional photos without the hassle. The dramatic landscapes, the active crater, and the unique geological formations offer endless photographic opportunities. Don't forget to protect your gear from volcanic ash and dust.

The Mount Bromo Sunrise Experience
Many visitors describe the sunrise as a 'once-in-a-lifetime' experience, with the ethereal mist rising from the caldera adding to the dramatic scenery. It's common to see stars before the sun appears, creating a truly celestial view. While the viewpoints can get crowded, especially on weekends, the sheer beauty of the scene often makes it worthwhile. Some tours offer hot drinks and a warm place to wait, enhancing the comfort of this early morning adventure.
Pro-tip: While the main viewpoints are popular, some local guides might know of less crowded spots that still offer incredible views. Booking a tour that includes a knowledgeable guide can enhance your chances of finding these hidden gems and understanding the geological significance of the area.
Navigating the Sea of Sand and Crater Hike
From the Sea of Sand, you'll reach the base of Mount Bromo. A climb of approximately 250 steps leads you to the rim of the active crater. The hike is moderately challenging due to the stairs and the altitude, but it's a rewarding experience. As you ascend, you'll feel the ground tremble slightly and hear the rumbling sounds from within the volcano. Peering into the crater, you'll see sulfurous fumes rising, a powerful reminder of the volcano's active nature.
Traveler Tip: Wear sturdy shoes for the hike, and be prepared for the sulfurous smell. Some visitors opt for a horse ride to get closer to the base of the volcano, which can be a fun alternative for those who prefer not to walk the entire distance.
Beyond the Volcano: Waterfalls and Local Culture
Some tours also incorporate visits to local villages or cultural sites, offering a glimpse into the lives of the Tenggerese people, the indigenous community of the Bromo region. These experiences can provide a deeper understanding of the area's heritage and traditions. Additionally, you might find opportunities to visit local markets or enjoy traditional Indonesian cuisine at restaurants with scenic views.
Insider Advice: If your tour doesn't include Madakaripura waterfall, consider adding it as an extension. It's a truly spectacular natural site that complements the volcanic scenery of Bromo perfectly.
