Reviews Summary

Visitors find San Sepolcro Church and its crypt to be a beautiful and historically significant site, offering a somber yet captivating experience. Many appreciate the free entry and the chance to explore Milan's ancient Roman past. Some note that opening times can be inconsistent, and the historical claims about the Knights Templar are unconfirmed.

"The church is really beautiful inside with a very interesting history. There's a very somber but beautiful energy throughout. The crypt has two main rooms and another smaller one to the side which I believe used to contain human remains. Upstairs behind the main altar there's another room with an early Christian baptism bath. The visit is free, but it's suggested you leave a donation of your choice. I would definitely recommend a visit to this church."

"Legend has it that it was built on the remains of the Chapel of the Convent of the Knights Templar, but the news is not confirmed.
What is certain is that we know that the current structure dates back to the 16th century with renovations in the 18th century.
The church was managed by a Confraternity that took care of burying the poor, who were buried in the small square in front (used as a cemetery..) and in the crypts.
The interior of the church is baroque. With several works of art, among which there is the Crucifix of the Black Jesus (it is called this because it was drowned by a deranged person who tried to burn it...).
When visiting the crypts, you will also see a disturbing fresco depicting Death, with the Latin writing, which translated says..."I spare no one".
It can be visited freely with an offer, at the times indicated (not always respected, however....)."

"A fundação deve início no século XVI, há resgistros, de que foi edificada acima de uma capela dos cavaleiros templários.
A cripta e a área ao redor, hoje é a piazza del Santo Sepolcro, eram utilizadas como cemitério.
O interior da igreja é muito interessante."
