What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are consistently impressed by the stunning and theatrical Baroque interior of Chiesa di San Francesco, often describing it as a hidden gem. While the exterior may be less imposing, the ornate stuccoes and vibrant frescoes inside create a memorable experience. Some note the absence of original masterpieces like Raphael's 'Marriage of the Virgin,' with only a copy remaining, but the overall artistic and historical value is highly appreciated.
"We stumbled upon it by chance, and were pleasantly surprised! A gem, a church that looks like a theater. Beautiful!"
Giulia
"Very beautiful, it's a shame that some of the works are reproductions of originals brought to Milan."
Lorenzo Azzarri
"A beautiful, very large church. The Marriage of the Virgin (a famous painting by Raphael Sanzio) was painted inside, later exported to Milan. There is, however, a copy inside. The church also contains a chapel dedicated to Vitelli, with frescoes by Giorgio Vasari from around 1560 and wooden benches from the mid-16th century. The exterior is not very well maintained, but it is very imposing. Worth a visit."
