"A very ancient church, founded in the 8th century by Summal (hence Somaldi) and donated by King Astolfo to the painter Auriperto. It was rebuilt in the 12th century, and the apse in the 14th century. The interior has three naves supported by sandstone columns and preserves works from the 15th, 16th, and 18th-19th centuries.
An interesting fact: on the white pillars of the main door, scratches are clearly visible, which legend attributes to the Devil, enraged after Saint Gemma Galgani's umpteenth refusal to follow him."
