What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Porta Capuana is a striking historical monument offering a glimpse into Naples' past, with its impressive arch and intricate carvings. Visitors appreciate its proximity to the central station and the nearby architectural gems like Santa Caterina a Formiello. However, some find the immediate surrounding area to be busy and advise caution due to its urban nature.
"A beautiful and historical gate, that has simply become overrun with an abundance of trash (physically), and some interesting characters walking around. It is a shame, because this place could be so much nicer and a destination (with the church next to it)."
Joey Di Pietro
"We went to Porta Capuana on a sunny Saturday. The area could be stunning with its towering structures, though only one side of the towers remains complete, while the other side seems more like an extension of the church rather than a gateway. The major issue wasn’t the homeless people moving between the ends of the gate but the excessive amount of trash and the lack of trash cans. The cobblestone surface was covered with glittering shards of glass, and garbage was present on every street corner. The site is historically significant and beautiful but is in dire need of better upkeep and a historical plaque to inform visitors of its importance, rather than relying on online searches."
Rebeka Boglárka Balogh
"The ancient city gate is quite impressive. The less impressive is the area around."
