"A beautiful fortress at the entrance to Orvieto. Very characteristic, clean, and evocative. It can be visited for free in a short amount of time by taking a stroll inside. Along the walls, you can enjoy breathtaking views with a beautiful panorama. The interior is very charming. There's also a small pond with a fountain filled with goldfish."

Luca Meoni

"Porta Soliana (or Porta Rocca)
This historic gate, initially called Porta Postierla, then renamed Soliana (or della Rocca), is nestled within the walls of the Albornoz fortress, on the eastern side of the city.
The structure of this gate is particularly beautiful and, in terms of the materials used, partially echoes the style of the dark and white "stripes" on the Duomo's profile.
In 1297, Pope Boniface VIII, similarly to what he had done at the western gate of the city (Porta Maggiore), had his statue placed in the niche above the gate itself. Today, after a period of restoration, the statue has been relocated and is visible. The gate is now a mostly pedestrian access point, providing access to the lower part of the city via a steep path."
