What to see/what to do in Padova?

Hey there, I am going to visit Padova in 2 weeks. This is on very short notice, so I didn't have time to plan much. I will obviously take the opportunity to go to Venice and since I've been to Venice in the past it will be easy to see interesting stuff there. But I don't know…

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise San Francesco Grande Church for its serene atmosphere and rich artistic heritage, particularly its historical frescoes and impressive architecture. Many find it a peaceful sanctuary for reflection, appreciating the welcoming ambiance and the palpable sense of history within its walls. Some note that certain frescoes are barely visible, and like many historical sites, it can be subject to varying opening hours.

"Begun in 1416, modified and enlarged in the first half of the 16th century, belonging to the Franciscan community, it was suppressed in 1810 and only in 1914 was it returned to the friars.
The external wall of the church, in terracotta, has a frame and hanging arches and the large portico with pointed arches is most likely from the same period, like the beautiful terracotta portal under the portico on the right.
In the lunettes on the wall, under the portico, there are barely visible traces of frescoes by Squarcione, a Paduan artist who was Mantenga's master, who had frescoed, with green earth, the facts of the Saint's life, even in some parts of the cloister. At Algarotti's time the frescoes were still visible and he says that the friars held a meeting to decide to cover them with lime. The interior has three naves, large, with cross vaults, separated from each other by alternating columns and pillars. Above the entrance door of the right nave is the sarcophagus with a bust of the Florentine writer Bartolomeo Cavalcanti, an exile in Padua where he died in 1562. Inside, there are numerous important artistic works, among others worked on: Bartolomeo Bellano and Andrea Briosco, disciples of Donatello, Paolo Veronese, Pietro Damini, Alessandro Varotari, known as il Padovanino, and Domenico Campagnola up to the present day with the many works of the Paduan sculptor Luigi Strazzabosco, also active in Palazzo Zabarella."
