What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors note the church's historical significance, particularly the 12th-century labyrinth slab. However, many have experienced unexpected closures, leading to disappointment. The architrave of Saint Peter is now housed in Piagnaro Castle.
"Born as a dependency of the Benedictine abbey of Brugnato, in the Vara valley, it closed with a line of walls and towers placed to guard the Porta del Monasterio (now Porta Fiorentina), the southernmost portion of the town of Pontremoli. Rebuilt after the bombings of the Second World War on the same site where the ancient San Pietro de Confluentu stood, the 12th century sandstone slab with the depiction of the Labyrinth, a symbolic representation of the pilgrims' itinerary, is preserved there, while the surviving architrave with the bas-relief depiction of Saint Peter is now kept at the Piagnaro castle.
.In 1494, the thousand Swiss infantrymen following Charles VIII of France, who arrived in Pontremoli on 28 October while on his way to Sarzana, were quartered there."

"The church is rather anonymous and does not enhance the historic center at all. It was rebuilt after the war on the site of the pre-existing church of San Pietro de Confluentu. Inside, an important artifact depicting a labyrinth is preserved."
Pietro Bertocchi
"It may be beautiful but today 13/9/2024 at 9:50 am it is closed!"
