What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Chiesa del Cristo Santa Maria degli Angeli as a beautiful, well-kept, and welcoming church nestled in Pordenone's historic heart. Many find it a place of peace and serenity, appreciating its stunning frescoes and the significant wooden crucifix. Some note the charm of the medieval alleys leading to the church.
"Hidden in the oldest heart of Pordenone, there is a small church that can only be reached by walking through small medieval alleys.
And the church was also built in that period, in fact it dates back to 1309, when it was built in Romanesque-Gothic style.
Worthy of note is especially the side portal in white Istrian stone, more beautiful than the front one, made with the same material.
The interior is clearly in neoclassical style, in fact it was redone in 1760, during important works.
However, you can still admire many pictorial elements of the great cycle of medieval frescoes that once decorated the walls.
Above the altar, a splendid wooden crucifix, polychrome, which gives the church its name.
It was made by Giovanni Teutonico in 1446, which was once believed to be miraculous, especially to protect the countryside from drought or too much rain and for this reason it was the destination of frequent pilgrimages and processions."
