"What remains of the church today is actually part of the remains of an ancient Benedictine abbey built at the beginning of the year 1000. Inside, despite the centuries that have passed, you can still feel a secluded and meditative atmosphere.
Santa Maria di Portonovo is a jewel of Romanesque architecture that is unique not only in the Marche and the Riviera del Conero, but in the entire peninsula: only in Corsica and Normandy can you find equally significant examples.
