Ostia Antica is amazing and impressed me more than Pompeii. Some of my pics
I spent about 4 hours in Ostia while waiting for a flight to depart at Ciampino. That includes about 45 minute at the small museum there. Honestly I barely scratched the surface. You need at least a full day to fully enjoy this massive ancient city. Unlike Pompeii, Ostia was…

The Loneliness of Ostia Antica
My partner and I recently returned from a trip to Italy where we spent two weeks prior to a conference she was in Rome for. We visited a lot of the major sites in Rome and around the Bay of Naples, including Pompeii and Herculaneum. I had been before, but it was her first time.…
Ostia Antica -- Put in on your Rome Itinerary
About 30 minutes by commuter train from the city, this is a special place to visit. Unlike the Forum, these are the remains of a working Roman city that existed at the port for Rome. It is huge with the remains of apartment buildings, a merchant square (with tile floors showing…

Going to Rome, any hidden history gems to visit?
Going to Rome with my significant other in two weeks, we’ll obviously do some of the big obvious stuff (Pantheon, Forum, Colosseum, etc) but was wondering if anyone had a list of more niche historical sites that are interesting, not often talked about but worth a visit?

"Unbelievable- the old city of Ostia Antica was like a dream. Houses that are high as 3 stories high still operational, with marvelous wall paintings and sculptures in marble and metal water pipes, simply breathtaking.
For archiology fans, this is a must visit."

"Amazing place, you can see here many hidden sites, likes undergrounds where you walk following the old sewage systems as well as the ovens below the bath. At some points you can see the cracks on the ground which allows to glimpse the basements of the bath.
On the south west of this building you can see the latrines which are still up and in a quit good condition.
You clearly spend a ling time there..."
