"Tucked away just outside Cagliari, the Saline Conti Vecchi is one of Sardinia’s most unexpected and fascinating destinations. A place where industrial archaeology, environmental conservation, and storytelling come together in a truly unique experience. Thanks to the tireless work of the FAI (Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano), this once-forgotten saltworks site has been carefully restored and reopened to the public, transforming it into a living museum of memory, nature, and innovation.
The guided train tour through the sprawling salt flats is entertaining and relaxing. Riding aboard a small open-air train, visitors are taken on a captivating journey that weaves through the vast white salt pans, shimmering under the sun, and surrounded by a wild, protected ecosystem. As the train winds through the salt flats, visitors are treated to stunning views of the wildlife that call this area home. Most iconic are the pink flamingos, often seen wading gracefully in the shallow waters."

"Worth a visit! Really interesting to know the history of the place and how it works now. Also to know a bit more about the flamingos and other birds in the area.
Well explained and nice little shop where it's impossible to leave with nothing :)"

Mano Mart

"Fascinating place with two very interesting film shows (with English subtitles) and old industrial/office displays which took us back to our earlier years. We then went on the train ride around the saline lakes. Our guide spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable, not only about the salt industry but also about the wildlife. We saw flamingos, herons, spoonbills and even a Holy Ibis, the only one of its kind in the region apparently. All in all a very good visit."
