Reviews Summary

Reviews highlight the museum's unique collection of Asian art, a legacy of Stefano Cardu's donation. However, many visitors express disappointment with the museum's small size and, notably, the absence of bathroom facilities, which can detract from the overall experience.

"Don't bother. We returned to the museum district just to visit this "museum." Shockingly, they don't even have a bathroom! They say you can use the one at the archeological museum, but they rudely turned us away (even though we had purchased tickets on a prior day). The two-room exhibition is just ok, not worth the hassle. It's a disgrace to even call this a museum and unbelievable not to coordinate with neighboring museums to provide the most basic of services for paying customers."

Karine Spencer

"The history of the museum starts in 1914 when the collector Stefano Cardu gave to the City of Cagliari part of his collection. Swords, vases, manuscripts, Asian religious statues characterized the museum. Worth a visit."

Simone Giovanni Cardia

"The museum is small, but really nice and with an amazing display of fascinating Thai, Chinese, Japanese and other southern-easter asian treasures, including manuscripts, silver etc. The museum, born from a private collection, worth the visit. Clean and polite guardians."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Legacy of Stefano Cardu

The Siamese Art Museum owes its existence to the remarkable generosity of Stefano Cardu. In 1914, he donated a significant portion of his personal collection to the City of Cagliari. This collection, rich in Asian art and artifacts, formed the foundation of the museum.

Cardu's passion for collecting brought together a diverse array of items, including swords, vases, manuscripts, and religious statues from various East Asian cultures. His foresight in sharing these treasures with the public allows visitors today to experience a curated glimpse into his lifelong dedication to art and history. Reddit

Navigating the Visitor Experience

Visitors often note the museum's compact nature, typically consisting of just two exhibition rooms. This means the visit is usually brief, making it an ideal stop for those with limited time or as part of a larger itinerary exploring the museum district. The intimate setting allows for a close appreciation of the displayed items. Reddit

However, a significant point of feedback concerns the lack of on-site amenities, particularly bathrooms. While some visitors have been directed to nearby institutions, this has not always resulted in a smooth experience, leading to frustration. It's crucial for potential visitors to be aware of this limitation and plan accordingly, perhaps by using facilities before or after their visit. Reddit
