Reviews Summary
Santa Marinella offers a beautiful seaside escape with clear, calm waters, making it a pleasant day trip from Rome. However, visitors often find the privatization of beaches and the associated high prices for sunbeds and umbrellas disappointing, with limited free areas. While the town is charming and the sea is inviting, service and amenity quality can be inconsistent.
"I was here for a day in early September taking a train from Rome; it was not busy, very calm, clean, with available and neat toilets. The sea was warm, and also very clear. A pair of sunbeds with umbrella was 30 EUR (goes up to 45 on that beach) which seemed overpriced comparing to other European beaches of the same or better quality. Still, we got to enjoy it much after many days siteseing:)"

"The city is beautiful, but i had very disappointed experience with the beach club service. The lady from ticket Office was disrespectful after we asked to cancel our reservation because shower and toilets weren’t properly cleaned to use. She refused to cancel payment what was done just 2 minutes before we checked the area. And we got no refund, just left the place as she was also aggressive. I think 50€ charges and not provide proper shower and changing room is just not nice."

"Beautiful and quiet. What a delightful town! *The beach may not have direct access and may require a fee, but it was beautiful with calm waters -- definitely worth the $10/person round trip by train from Rome to spend even a few hours by the sea. This brief excursion fed my soul.
*When searching for train tickets, you have to type in S. Marinella
*AND give yourself at least 20 minutes to hike all the way to the Rome station's platform 27 or 29 if one of those is still the departure point. It's so much further than you might think!!!
*Finally, Just make sure not to miss your train stop, especially if you don't speak Italian! Be ready to hop off the train or you could end up going right past and wasting an hour or more waiting for the train back to Santa Marinella (which we may or may not have done 🤣).
*There was also a wonderful, charming cafe right on the beachfront called Gigi bar. Lots of quick food and treat options and their staff spoke English. Thank you so much for your hospitality!"
