What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Scoglio dell'Ogliera is lauded for its wild, tranquil atmosphere and the unique opportunity to swim to a submerged shipwreck. Visitors appreciate the crystal-clear waters and the natural beauty, though the steep, stony trail and rocky beach entry require caution and proper footwear. Arriving early is highly recommended to avoid crowds and enjoy the best conditions.
"We couldn't get the parking in the town, so we went a bit further and parked at some picnick spot (worried about a fee but didn't get any), then followed some path down. It was slippery, stony and steep but reachable in open sandals and paddleboards equipment on shoulders. Later a young family with a baby and a toddler got there as well. The beach is covered with bigger oval stones and a sea grass but there is always a place in a shade to hide and the ambient of wild and almost empty beach really worths!! Easy to swim and paddleboard to the ship wreck, a perfect day for our family!"

"What else ?"
Grazia Robino
"Don't arrive too late to find a parking space. It's recommended to wear shoes when going down the trail; the path is easy to manage with children if they follow their lead :). Unfortunately, after the storm today, there's a bit of seaweed on the beach and silt in the water. Otherwise, it's a beautiful, quiet beach. Swimming and snorkeling are also great for children."

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
The main consideration for families is the trail. While manageable, it's steep and stony. Sturdy footwear for everyone, especially the little ones, is crucial. Arriving early is also a good strategy to avoid the midday sun and secure a good spot on the pebble beach. Pack plenty of snacks, water, and sun protection, as there are no facilities. The wild, natural setting offers a sense of discovery that kids often love.

The Enigmatic Pomonte Shipwreck
To reach the shipwreck, you'll need to be comfortable swimming in open water. The journey is relatively short, but it's advisable to go in the morning when the water is calmer and visibility is better. The clear waters around Scoglio dell'Ogliera enhance the experience, allowing you to see the wreck and its inhabitants in stunning detail. It's a unique adventure that adds a layer of excitement to a visit to this otherwise tranquil beach.
Remember to check sea conditions before heading out. While accessible, it's still an open water swim. Bringing a brightly colored float or paddleboard can increase your visibility to boats. The shipwreck is a testament to the sea's power and its ability to create new habitats, making it a truly memorable part of the Scoglio dell'Ogliera experience.
Navigating the Trail and Beach Access
Once you reach the beach, you'll find it's not a sandy paradise but rather a stretch of larger, oval stones. Seagrass can also be present, especially after storms, and the water entry can be tricky due to slippery rocks. Water shoes are highly recommended for a more comfortable and secure transition into the sea. Despite these minor challenges, the 'wild and almost empty beach' ambiance is consistently praised, making the effort worthwhile for those seeking a natural escape.
Finding parking can also be part of the adventure. Parking in the nearby town is often limited, leading visitors to park further afield and enjoy a short walk. Some have found convenient parking spots at picnic areas. Planning your arrival for early morning is key to securing a spot and enjoying the beach before it gets busier.
