"Wonderful monument of medieval culture and architecture. Church was documented already in 1170 and belonged to the Knights Templars till the dissolution of that order. Excellent example of Norman Romanesque architecture in South Italy. Another "must see" place in Trani. Admission is free but any donation is welcomed and highly appreciated."

"DOMINATES THE SEASIDE
We were here on August 12, 2024, and while strolling through the historic center, we spotted this 12th-century Romanesque church, built in the typical pinkish-white Trani stone. It is located almost right next to the harbor and is also known as the "Templars' Church or the Church of Purgatory." It was probably founded in the 12th century, but the apses and sculptural decorations have been attributed to the following century. Worth a visit.
