What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Trieste Centrale Railway Station is a functional hub undergoing renovations, which can lead to bus replacements and altered station aesthetics. While amenities like ticket machines and a Spar are available, the morning park area raises safety concerns for some. However, the station staff are frequently praised for their exceptional helpfulness.
"1 | The main train station in Trieste is currently undergoing renovation (as of July 2025), with some trains being replaced by buses.
2 | Tickets are sold at machines located below the departure board.
3 | In front of the station is a park that, in the morning, is full of trash, homeless people, and shady characters. It didn’t feel particularly safe."

"Big' representative lobby is currently being renovated. The station has toilets for 1 €, that was for free for ages. Inside there is Spar store restaurant, vending machines. It is an end station."
Gaber Zidar
"30/08/25- 1800. Bought ticket online but due to my own mistake i didn’t get the ticket by email.
Explained to Ambra at the info office in front of the platforms. She was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Tried to find the ticket online with the reference number and image of confirmation of purchase I had, when that didn’t work, personally went and found the train manager to ask for me.
She came back to me to reassure me that all would be fine and the train manager knew and that I did not have to buy another ticket (which is what I was prepared to do for a €15 ticket).
I travel a lot on trains across Europe. I have never met someone so helpful and friendly as Ambra. She deserves a medal!"

Navigating Trieste Centrale During Renovations
Beyond the operational changes, the renovations might also affect the aesthetics and accessibility of certain station areas. The 'big representative lobby' is noted as being under renovation, which could alter the initial impression of the station. Despite these challenges, essential amenities like ticket machines, a Spar store, and restrooms are generally available. The information office remains a vital resource for travelers seeking clarity on schedules and any changes due to the ongoing work.
Travelers are advised to factor in extra time for their journeys when using Trieste Centrale during this period. This allows for any unforeseen delays or the need to navigate bus connections. Checking departure boards carefully and listening to station announcements will be key to a smooth transit experience.

However, it's important to be aware of the safety perceptions surrounding the station, particularly in the early morning. Despite these concerns, the station staff, like Ambra mentioned in a review, are often praised for their exceptional helpfulness and friendliness, especially when assisting with ticket issues or travel queries. This human element can significantly enhance the travel experience, even amidst renovations or less-than-ideal surroundings.
