"Panchvaktar Mandir is one of the oldest Shiv temples in the heart of Jammu city on Panchvaktar ( locally pronounced as Panjbakhtar ) road an offshoot of Residency Road linking to Kanak Mandi. It is also popularly known as “Rupaiye Wala Mandir”. as number of British era coins are embeded in the floor.
It is said that in 9th century Adi Shankracharya during his visit to Jammu had stayed here. It is believed that later it was built in early 14th century during the reign of Raja Mal Dev. As per literary sources, Guru Nanak DevJi had visited this place during the period of his second Udasi in 1514 and he stayed here for about three days. During his stay the then king of Jammu Raja Khokhar Dev visited Guru Nanak Dev Ji at this temple along with his queen and the entourage and was blessed by Guru Nanak Dev ji and given discourse on ‘Raj Dharma’ under a Beri tree . This Beri which is highly revered is still there and is blooming throughout the year. and is highly revered.
This episode of royal visit and Guru Nanak’s sermon under this Beri is also represented in a painting on the temple wall."

"We people visit once in a year on the Birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Our Bua Datti Mail of "KHANGAAL" community is performed at Shivalay Mandir or Ruye wala Mandir, Panjvaktar Road, Jammu. Our parents and grandparents migrated to Jammu from Mirpur POJ&K at the time of partition of India and Pakistan in the year 1947."
