"The water's deep reddish-brown because of iron oxide is kind of cool, but not mind-blowing."

Reviews Summary

Chinoike Jigoku is praised for its unique, blood-red waters caused by iron oxide, offering a visually striking experience. Visitors appreciate the convenience of the gift shop and the opportunity for a relaxing foot bath. However, some find the foot baths to be only lukewarm and note that the site is a bit further from the main cluster of 'Hells,' requiring specific transport arrangements.

"The hell: very nice weird color. A little more on the orange side when we visited (mid-October), but still super nice. Highly recommend making this the last of the 7 hells that you visit, as the restaurant Gokurakutei is next door and you can end your visit with a nice hearty meal after a round of the hells.

Chinoike’s footbath is also very nice and may have been the hottest among the 7 hells of Beppu!"

Karra Libunao

"Fair warning, Chinoike Jigoku is pretty far from the rest of the hells, and the other hells also have red pools, so if you’re short on time I probably would skip the two over here and instead visit the other hells that are lumped together. But if you have too much time like me and like seeing stuff it’s a pretty cool red steaming pool! 😂👍"

Helena Ying Cecilie Wang

"We had time to enjoy the foot bath at Chinoike Jigoku, as it was less crowded compared to Umi Jigoku. But if I had to pick one, I would still lean towards Umi Jigoku."
